I used to do a lot of house chores with Ian, but last time I was more focused on teaching colors, shapes, numbers, etc. to Ian. I think it is time to take up practical life activities again. I am sure Ian will be happy, as he’s not been willing to do the activities I set up for him lately.
I want Ian to put into practice the skills he’s been practicing (scooping, pouring, using a funnel, screwing and unscrewing lids, open boxes, zippers, carrying objects) to accomplish daily life tasks. The aims of these activities will be coordination, concentration, order, independence, learning a sequence of activities, learning a sense of responsibility and developing self-image.

Antes solía hacer varias tareas domesticas con Ian, pero últimamente he estado más concentrada en enseñarle colores, formas, número, etc. Entonces, creo que es hora de retomar nuestras actividades vida práctica. Estoy segura de que Ian estará feliz, ya que últimamente no ha estado muy dispuesto a hacer las actividades que he creado para él.
Ahora quiero que Ian ponga en práctica las habilidades que ha estado adquiriendo (utilizar cucharas, vaciar, usar un embudo, enroscar y desenroscar tapas, abrir cajas, cierres y llevar objetos) para realizar tareas de su vida cotidiana. El objetivo de estas actividades serán: coordinación, concentración, orden, independencia, aprendizaje de secuencia de actividades, aprendizaje del sentido de responsabilidad, desarrollo de imagen propia.

Wash hands. Ian is doing this before eating. I have prepared a tray with pump soap dispenser and a bowl that I half-fill with water when Ian is going to wash his hands. Ian is learning these steps:

1. Wet his hands
2. Shake off excess water into the bowl
3. Put his left hand under the soap-dispenser and pump it once with his right hand
4. Rub hands together spreading the soap all over the surface of hands (tops and palms)
5. Rinse hands in the water
6. Shake off excess water into bowl
7. Take down the towel from the hook
8. Hold the towel in one hand and squeeze the other hand then change and repeat it for the other hand
9. Hang the towel back on the hook

He needs more practice rubbing his hands; sometimes he splashes the water, but he always smiles proudly when he’s finished the sequence.

Lavarse las manos. Ian está haciendo esto antes de comer. Para ello he preparado una bandeja con un dispensador de jabón liquido y un tazon que llenó por la mitad con agua cada vez que Ian va a lavarse las manos. Ian está aprendiendo en estos pasos:

1. Mojar sus manos
2. Sacudir el exceso de agua en el tazon
3. Poner su mano izquierda bajo el dispensador de jabon y bombear una vez con su mano derecha
4. Frotar sus manos juntas y esparcir el jabón por toda la superficie de manos
5. Enjuagar manos en el agua
6. Sacudir exceso de agua en tazon
7. Descolgar la toalla desde el gancho
8. Poner la toalla en una mano y apretar la otra mano, cambiar de mano y repetir
9. Colgar la toalla sobre el gancho.

Ian aun necesita más practica frotando sus manos; a veces chapotea en el agua; pero siempre sonríe orgulloso cuando termina la secuencia.

Serve his milk. As the weather is very hot at the moment, Ian is drinking cold milk. To help him serve his own milk, I’ve set up a tray on his table with his bottle, a funnel and a sponge and have put a jar with a portion of milk in the refrigerator. Ian is learning these steps:

1. Get the milk jar from the refrigerator (I help him to open it)
2. Carry the milk jar to his table
3. Unscrew the jar lid
4. Pour the milk into his bottle using a funnel
5. Screw the bottle lid
6. Clean the spills with the sponge
7. Squeeze the sponge into a bucket (it is always under the table).

I still need to remind him which direction to unscrew and screw a lid. Unscrewing is easier than screwing for him.

Servir a su leche. Como el clima es muy caliente en este momento, Ian está tomando leche fría. Para ayudarle a servirse a su leche, he preparado una bandeja de su mesa con su biberon, un embudo y una esponja y he puesto un frasco con una porción de la leche en el refrigerador. Ian está aprendiendo a seguir estos pasos:

1. Sacar la botella de leche del refrigerador (yo le ayudo a abrirlo)
2. Llevar la botella de leche a su mesa
3. Desenrosque la tapa de la botella.
4. Vaciar la leche en su biberón usando un embudo
5. Enroscar la tapa su biberon

Ian aún necesita a le recuerde la dirección en que debe desenroscar y enroscar la tapa de la botella. Desenroscarla es más fácil que enroscarla para él.

Serve his yogurt and cereal. I’ve put a jar with cereal on Ian’s table for Ian to learn these steps:

1. Carry the cereal jar to the dining table
2. Get the yogurt from the refrigerator and carry it to the dining table
3. Open the yogurt container
4. Serve the yogurt, scooping or pouring it
5. Unscrew the lid of the cereal jar
6. Pouring the cereal
7. Mix the yogurt with the cereal
8. Eat using a spoon
9. Use a napkin

Ian usually cleans his hands on his clothes, so I have to remind to him to use the napkin constantly.
By the way, I am looking forward to having a shelf to put all the things he needs to set his table and serve his drinks and snacks, so I will tell you about it when the shelf comes.

Servir a su yogurt y cereales. He puesto un frasco con cereal en la mesa de Ian para aprender a seguir estos pasos:

1. Llevar el frasco de cereal a la mesa de comedor
2. Sacar el yogur del refrigerador y llevarlo a la mesa de comedor
3. Abrir el contenedor de yogur
4. Servir el yogur, con una cuchara o vaciandol
5. Desenroscar la tapa del frasco de cereal
6. Verter el cereal
7. Mezclar el yogur con el cereal
8. Comer con cuchara
9. Uso servilleta

Ian generalmente limpia sus manos en su ropa, así que tengo que recordarle constantemente que use la servilleta.
Por cierto, estoy ansiosa de tener un estante para poner todas las cosas que Ian necesita para poner su mesa y servirse sus bebidas y meriendas, así que ya les contaré cuando la ésta llegue.

Open boxes, zips and lids. I am using boxes, jars, cookie tins, Ziplocs, bags with zippers, fun backpacks, to place the toys or materials for his activities. Each time he wants to choose an activity he has to zip and unzip, open and close, screw and unscrew the containers.

Abrir cajas, cierres y tapas. Estoy usando cajas, frascos, latas de galletas, Ziplocs, bolsas con cierres, mochilas divertidas, para colocar los juguetes o materiales para las actividades de Ian. Cada vez que él quiere elegir una actividad tiene que abrir y cerrar estos “contenedores”.

Put shoes in its place. Ian loves to go barefoot, so he takes his shoes off and leaves them everywhere. He is learning that there is a corner in his bedroom where he should line his shoes.

Poner sus zapatos en su sitio. A Ian le encanta andar descalzo, así siempre se está sacando los zapatos y dejándolos en cualquier lado. Ahora está aprendiendo de que en su cuarto hay una esquina donde el debe poner sus zapatos en fila.

Carry dirty clothes basket to the laundry. Ian has a basket in his bedroom where he puts his dirty clothes right after I change his clothes. He is learning to carry that basket to the laundry every morning.

Llevar su canasta de ropa sucia al cuarto de lavandería. Ian tiene una tina en su cuarto donde pone su ropa sucia cada vez que le cambio de ropa. El está aprendiendo a llevar esta tina al cuarto de lavandería cada mañana.

Get water. As I mentioned in a previous post Ian has a tray to serve his water. This tray contains a glass, a jug, a bottle with water and a sponge. I wanted Ian to refill the jug from a bottle but he always asked me to unscrew the lid, so this week I took off the bottle in order that Ian starts using the water dispenser to refill his jug. I think he’s been waiting for this for a long time :-). For meal time, he now has a different jug which requires him to turn his wrist a bit more.

Servirse agua. Tal como lo he mencionado en un post anterior, Ian tiene una bandeja para servirse agua. Esta bandeja contiene: un vaso, una jarrita, una botella con agua y una esponja. Quise que Ian rellenara su jarrita usando la botella pero el siempre me pedía ayuda para abrir la botella, asi que esta semana he retirado la botella para que Ian aprenda a llenar su jarrita usando el dispensador de agua. Creo que él ha estado esperando por esto por mucho tiempo :-) Para la hora de las comidas el tiene ahora una jarrita diferente, que requiere que el gire un poco mas su muñeca.
